Canine Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy is a non-weight bearing therapy that uses warm water and targeted exercise to aid recovery from injury or surgery. Hydrotherapy also improves general fitness as it builds stamina, muscle tone and can increase range of movement. It is also a great confidence building activity for your dog.

Facilities & Sessions

Our facilities include a purpose built pool and wet room where you are invited to have a drink and actively participate in the sessions with your dog. Each session is 30 minutes long. Please allow 1 hour for the first consultation and treatment session.

All treatment programmes are delivered in conjunction with your veterinary surgeon by our qualified hydrotherapists.

In order for your dog to participate, we do require a completed consent form which also needs to be signed by your veterinary surgeon to confirm that your dog is in a suitable state of health

Hydrotherapy Benefits

Warm water increases the circulation of blood to the muscles, leading to relaxation and a reduction in pain and stiffness. Controlled exercise improves circulation, reduces swelling around an injured area and enhances healing. Swimming sessions also provide mental stimulation and enrichment for your dog who may have restricted movement or be on a restricted exercise regime.

Hydrotherapy tones most of the major muscle groups and improves the overall fitness of your dog. Water based exercise typically uses 30% more oxygen than similar land based exercise which promotes cardiovascular fitness.

Individually tailored treatment programmes can help: -

- hip or elbow dysplasia
- pre and post surgical intervention and rehabilitation
- Osteoarthritis
- weight loss and fitness
- water confidence
